Graham Engeland and team conducted an experiment on people to check for the inflammations that result due to the stress a person is facing. They tested the blood samples of the people who had been suffering from high-stress level throughout their day. After the survey, they noticed that the people facing stress for extended periods of time were having a higher level of inflammation biomarkers in their blood samples. This research proves the hazardous effects of emotions on our body.

Understanding the natural stress response

Adrenaline is responsible for your increased heart rate and high blood pressure. Cortisol increases sugars, enhances the brain’s use of glucose. Cortisol also affects a fight-or-flight situation.

When anybody is in a stressed situation, his mind sends a signal to the body and activates our flight and fight response, which helps a person to cope up with the situation. But excessive activation of flight and fight response can damage our immune system badly.

Researchers speculate that on the other hand people having positive emotions are likely to have a healthy body.  Dr. Fredrickson states that positive emotions lead a healthy body, but a person himself should avoid negative emotions and practice more to be happy for living healthy.

There are ways we can control our emotions, for this purpose firstly we have to recognize our emotions and judge them wheatear they are positive or negative. One should know how their emotion affects their health. And if they find their emotions to be harmful, they might consult a psychiatrist because our mental health is as important as our physical health.

Graham-Engeland and his team noticed that a minor experience of positive mood resulted in lower inflammation level in their blood.

Overcoming our negativity bias

Our negative bias means that we focus a lot on the drawbacks of our life; we avoid the blessings we have and focus on the stress we are facing in our life. The frustration of bad traffic or rude behavior of the boss leads to a person’s bad mood throughout the day and as a result blasts upon his family at the end of the day.

In order to overcome this negativity from our lives, Fredrickson proposes that “we need to experience three positive emotions for every negative one.” In this, she claims that this can be done intentionally because a positive activity can overcome all the negativity of the day. She claims that one can practice a positive activity intentionally to overcome the negativity from life.

Positive emotions lead to emotional resilience

Positive emotions have the tendency to heal a person, mentally or physically. At the end of a day, a positive gesture can make you forget the stress you have been facing throughout the day.

We can compare emotional resilience with a rubber band—it means that no matter how far a resilient person is stretched by negativity he has this ability to come back to the normal state with the help of some positive activities.

A resilient person has this ability to cope up with emotional breakdown without falling apart. A resilient person doesn’t deny the negativity of his life, in fact, finds a way to fight with these situations in a healthy manner. Such people are having an optimistic approach and believe that these hardships are a part of this life and they help you grow stronger.

Whenever we feel relaxed or stress-free our mind sends a positive message to the body, and our body is relaxed. A person with a positive approach and relaxed body are supposed to age slowly compared to a person with a high-stress level.
